Unicode (Does it Speed up Processing)

I have some large access 2000 tables with a fair number of large text fields.

I notice access2000 has UNICODE COMPRESSION

If i change the text fields to Unicode = "yes"
Will this help speed up any processing. ????

Are there any real gains and/or dangers.

Appreciate any comments

Do you play with exotic character sets ?
If no then disable Unicode.
