I have reinstalled xp pro twice over the last couple of days. Booting from cd formatting the drive(slow not the quick option) fine. But various things have started popping up for instance the msblaster virus appeared(I contracted this last year but thought I had eradicated it) due to the fact all service packs and patches where wiped as well its come back. Annoying pop-ups which I blocked with zonealarm have appeared again. I have sorte the two examples out by reinsatalling patches and zonealarm.
But what is more worrying is that when I have downloaded service pack 1 I got dll conflicts and certain software just won't load. So I am reluctant to to down load sp1 again incase it happens again. Is there anyway i can wipe this hard drive please help me!

I hope you are aware that blaster and most other worms are not by nature boot sector malware, and there are lots of removal tools for them.

I am suprised that Zone Alarm was not sufficient to stop this behavior.

But a direct answer to your question:

The problem that i have is more to do with the fact that I thought I had wiped the hard drive, if so why is there stuff still on it?

I would delete your partions and recreate them with a win98 bootdisk and then format them fat32. Then back to ntfs with another clean install. Just fyi that data on you disk is not gone when you format unless you overwrite several times. There are tools out there (probabley your hard drive manufacture) that will zero fill you drive to make sure everything is cleared.
