I have a 5-day weekly differential backup, full backup on Friday, with GFS enabled in AS2000 v.7 w/ SP5.

In _DLY media pool:

Min # of Media in Save Set: 1

Retention Time (days): 3

But after a tape to be used its expiration date is set to one year later, and not three days later.

How can I resolve this problem?

The meaning of Retention Time (days): 3 is that the tape will be protected from being overwritten in save Set for a 3 days and after 3 days it will be moved to Scratch Set to be used for backup.

The Retention Time is not related to tape expiration date in this case your expiration dat still one year.

Since in your case when tape get expire after one year it has to be changed.

Yes, retention is just for administrative reasons to make it easier for you to know when this tape should be taken out of rotation. For the average user after one year a tape can be used for long term storage but should not be used for daily backups any more.
