Unexpected File Format

I'm getting the above error when trying to open .fla files that previously worked fine. This is only happening to some of my files. I just tested a file on another machine and got the same error. Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to recover the files. I'm using Flash 8.

The files were most probably saved in a CS3 format, and can no longer be opened in Flash 8.
You need to use CS3 (or someone that has it...) to open them and re-save them and/or a copy of them in a Flash 8 format.
