After booting or restarting eth1, I got the following entry in the routing table:

169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth1

What generate the entry?
How can I configue it so that this entry wouldn't be created?

I am using RH9.

Thanks.

My understanding is this has something to do with zeroconfig networking. This is what allows Win 2000+ and Mac OSX boxes to be configured in a network with no ip setup or dhcp servers. It is intended for seting up a small network with little knowledge of how networks work. Just plug a crossover cable between two systems and, bang, instant network.

To disable this change your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth* file to include the line:

NOZEROCONF='yes'

Hope that helps.

It works! Thanks usige.

And where can I find the information of configuration parameters in these configuration files: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*, /etc/sysconfig/network, etc?

Thanks again.

Code:
/usr/share/doc/initscripts-`rpm -q --queryformat '%{version}' initscripts`/sysconfig.txt
contains documentation for all the files in
Code:
/etc/sysconfig
on my systems.
