I'm trying to learn xml and managed to nail the "basics" down, but I got passed the chapter on Namespaces and am doubting I understood it.

Here is what I got from the book. Namespaces are ways to seperate Joe's independant xml information from Bob's. So, if Joe was to write a rating on a list of movies, I could put in a namespace to point to Joe's ratings and another namespace to point to Bob's.

Assuming this is true, the URL/URI being called by the xmlns is what kind of document? Is is text, xml, or what? All the book does is defines what appears to be a directory or a file without an extension.

Thanks in advance,
Jonathan
