Ihave a client with a VS Mail 1.0, Processor 4.1.
There are 9 mailbox in use. After 4 years, they now want to add selector codes with announcement only.
3) Directions to plant
4) Job opportunities
5) todays stock price
6) todays sale items

I have changed (3)from direct extension transfer to selector transfer; it ask for extension number???.

On VS 1.0 am I limited to useing an extension for the announcement, therefore limiting the system on the number of selector codes I can use....?

Selector codes let the caller enter a single digit to reach an extension or calling group. Maybe you don't want callers to know your real 2-digit extension number, or sometimes the person covering a department changes so you just repoint the selector to the current extension number.

Since your extension numbers start with 1's (10-19), 2's (20-29), etc., if you want the caller to be able to enter a 2-digit extension number, you need to reserve the selector codes that match the first digit of your physical extensions as "Direct Extension Transfer"

In your question above, you would need to make 4 "guest" mailboxes with the information recorded as the greeting for the box, and point the selector code to the mailbox.

The problem with using a mailbox for an announcement on VS Mail R1, is that the mailboxes still take messages, and you know someone is going to leave a message and get mad when no one calls them back.

Now, how many maiboxes are available on your VS Mail? You say 9 are in use, so you either have only 1 left, or if you have an expansion card in the voice mail, you have 11 left.

Your processor is a 4.1, but is it a Partner Plus, Partner II, or Partner ACS?

If you have the mailboxes available, make your guest mailboxes. What extension numbers should you use? Well, the Voice Mail card is seen as a 6-extension card to the system, with only 2 or 4 ports actually active. You can use the Voice Mail port extensions as the guest mailboxes, just be sure to assign Auto VMS Cover in #310, and if you have it (depending on which processor you have), change the VMS Cover Rings in #321 to 1.

Set the different selector codes to go to the different mailboxes, record the messages, and Bob's you uncle!
