attorney office uses pots lines on phones. Assistants cover different numbers for different attorneys, if not answered lines ring to reception to be handled there.
New ip office will be installed with DID. This scenario will involve many attorneys numbers. I understand that using call tagging can work to identify a call to a phone so that they can distinguish
one call from another. Is this the best option? Any information would be helpful concerning programming.

Call tagging is a way to show a name with the call but it is only shown on a ringing phone.
You can create a group with the users as member where the phones must ring.
Then create for each attourney a group with the name of the attourney, set it OOS and set the above group as te OOS destination.
Then each individual group can have its own greetings and voicemail box and the name is always visible. on ringing phones and when on a answered call.
Disadvantage is that not all the info is always visible as the info will show "caller number">"destination name" which does not always fit on a single line of the phone.
I usually setup both tagging and the group programming.

If I understand you correctly the did is assigned to ring the attorneys group not the assistant group. But because it is out of service it will ring the assistant group destination and have the tag showing on a call appearance button at all times. So call appearance for each line or oos group and a few more appearance for intercom and transfered calls?

Sorry, we don't use analog trunks and/or line appearance buttons.
If each Attotney has its own line and each line has a line appearance then naming is not really necessery as you can see on which line the call aarives.

Tagging i probably nut required as STD operation of the IPO Should suffice.

if a call is presented to destination A, then diverts or overflows to another group the default operation is to display the name of the originally intended destination.

if this is not enough ( or example multiple DDI's for different purposes all ringing the same group) then tagging can be used but it is seldom necessary.

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
