This is one of those services that we love but is just so damn flakey.
It can be fine for months and then just stop working. Sometimes we have to restart the service on the mapigw but most of the time we need to restart advancedum (we change the polling interval from 60 to 61 or viceversa).
We notice it crashes when we restart our Exchange CAS servers. Ok, note to self, restart AdvUM after restarting CAS.
But we also see it crash when we have performance issues on our mailbox servers. Not as easy to spot but ok.
And sometimes it just crashes.
I am digging through the /usr/vm/logs/msblogs logs files and finding some "interesting" stuff (when the service fails we see NP trying to poll mailboxes and failing "npmMailbox.cpp#1001: Mailbox 3571 - initialized = false, notify MBD = false")
(just adding that in case anyone ever googles that message they will find at least one hit).
QUESTION/REQUEST: On a very undetailed/high level, can someone explain to me how AdvUM and the MapiGW work or better yet point me towards some kind of doc? Exchange accepts MAPI connection. Nupoint only supports IMAP. The MapiGW accepts IMAP requests from NuPoint and translates them to MAPI. Nupoint forwards the user/pass info for the users to MapiGW? Does nupoint EVERY talk directly to the MapiGW? Does the MapiGW send any authentication requests to the domain controllers? ??
