Hi experts,

I'm moving a SQL server database from one 2008 Server to another 2008 Server.
The database uses a login which is not a domain account but rather ServerName\AccountName.

I have not come across such a login in the past but I will need to create that login on the new server.

I'm in the local Admin group. Will I be able to create such a login and is there a term for this type of login?

Thanks.

It's called a local account, and yes, you'll be able to create that login. But that login may need to be regranted permissions in SQL, since I believe that really a SID (Security ID) is what's stored in SQL, not the simple user name, so simply recreating an account with the same name probably won't do the trick, but adding permissions shouldn't be too hard, as long as you can access that database/instance in SQL Manager.
