Underscore not appearing in any menu option 4

In a form in Visual Basic 6.0, I used Menu Editor and defined Menus. I used ampersand (&) in menu captions. When I run the form, underscore does not appear in any option. As soon as I press Alt key, underscore appears in all options but it does not appear right away as the form is shown to user.

This is caused by an OS setting.

You need to alter the settings in the display properties -> effects tab.

The check box you need to clear is labelled as "Hide Keyboard Navigation Indicators until I use the Alt key"

I had the same 'problem' - thanks for the tip. I never noticed (the lack of) an underscore in other apps.

This was something changed in W2000

In the Display Properties Effects tab there is an item ‘Hide keyboard navigation indicators until I use the Alt Key’ - If this is checked underlines are hidden until the Alt key is pressed.

Also if you want to navigate through menus using hotkeys you must keep the Alt Key pressed whilst pressing the other letters - releasing the Alt key selects the menu item selected at that point.

I am having the same problem with the underscore not showing. I am using Windows XP. Where is the checkbox to change????

Open Display properties, go to the effects tab and uncheck the box "Hide Keyboard... alt key" in W2K

I guess it is somewhere like that in XP

I cannot find any tab called what you have in these threads...there are none in the "Display".....
I have tried a search and cannot find the checkbox...

If you are using XP then make sure you are logged on as administrator.
