Everyday, we send a message to the shareholders of the company where I work. It is just a small newsletter, which is about 170k.
It is sent to about 350 internet address, and about 15 internal address. I have created 4 distribution lists, since you can only have a maximum number of like 165 in a DL. 3 of the lists contain the internet address, and the other list contains the 15 internal addresses. When the message is sent out, all the lists are put in the "Bcc:" so the reciepients can see the other addresses.
This has been working good until the other day (have been running Exchange Server 2000 since March 5th). On the 12th, all internet messages that where sent to DomainX.com were Undeliverable. Later that afternoon, I resent the email just to that domain and they were sent fine. Now today (March 15), I got all messages that where sent to DomainX.com back again, including 2 other domains (DomainB.com and Hotmail.com). Could their servers be down?? I didn't have this problem last week or on Tuesday.
I called the ISP that hosts "DomainA.com" and asked if they had a problem, and they said no. I thought that they may have been lying, but today I got them back again, plus 2 more --> including hotmail.com.
Should I not send 350+ messages all at once? Worked fine last week, so I don't think that is the problem. Should I call my ISP and see if they are having troubles sending to those domains? I can send a message to an internet domain that was rejected after a couple of hours (after knowing that they come back).
I guess my questions are: My ISP problem? Too many messages at once? Change a setting on Exchange Server 2000?
Kind of stumped....thanks.
Nick
