Is there a Linux equivalent to Netware's Salvage, or some kind of undelete like Windows has for Linux? I'm talking about a file a user deletes over the network, of course.

I didn't see anything in the FAQ's, and there were a couple of threads that mention it, but don't say anything about how to enable that feature.

Thanks.

Wow!!! Netware's salvage... that was a fantastic tool (okay enough reminiscing). Alas Iolair, afaik there is no native undelete tool available for Linux. You might try googling for a third party tool (it would also depend on the filesystem you are using also)

If the data is important, unmount and/or get a snapshot of the raw filesystem as soon as possible, or chances are the data will be overwritten.

As itsp1965 said, it depends a lot on the filesystem in question, but you may be able to identify the deleted files using debugfs.

Gotta love the salvage feature. If you use Novell's OES2 and the NSS file system, you can get the same functionality you had on NetWare. OES2 is SUSE Linux Enteprise Server (SLES 10) with some add on products/services that make OES2. The main purpose of OES2 is to give similar services on Linux that you had on NetWare. That's why in the NetWare roadmap, OES is the logical progression from NetWare - because you can migrate to OES2, migrate all the services on the backend, and it's pretty much transparent to end users. We do this all the time.
