I am tryig to access a file on a server from a different server and am getting the error unc paths not supported.

For example at the on server1 I type the command as follows

c:\dir1>cd \\server2\dir2

and I get the response as

'\\server2\dir2' is an invalid current directory path. UNC paths are not supported. Defaulting to windows directory.

What is needed to do to solve this error?
Thanks in Advance.

Sounds to me like you are not mapped to the what ever drive you want to connect. If that's the case go rigth click on network neighorhood and select map drive select a letter for example Z the server name and share name i.e z:\\yourserver\yourshare then you should be able to go into your command prompt

Get the MSKB article:
Q156276 - Cmd.exe Does Not Support UNC Names as the Current Directory.

Looks like your case to me.

Hope it helps.
