A friend (??) has asked if I can help them fix an Access report that is not producing correctly. The version they have is 2002/2003 and they use it to manage their business.

They produce a main report in the "details' section and a summary report in the Report footer section. My knowledge of access reports is limited but I thought I could have a look anyway. I can follow what is happening right up to the summary report in the footer (where the error occurs). The detail report lists and totals all the kilometers travelled for each vehicle and then in the footer report there is an "UNBOUND" field that should display these totals one under the other.

When I select properties for the unbound field, the name is called "RIG1".

How can I determine how RIG1 is calculated.

Any help will be appreciated.

First, if you see the word UNBOUND in the textbox, that means it's doing NOTHING.
In design view, on the unbound controls property sheet, and right under NAME is the option CONTROL SOURCE. This is what dictates what's in every textbox control. If it is a calculated field, it will begin with an = sign, then some arithmatic expression or function.
Sounds like you have to fill in the blank next to Control Source.

I forgot something. You said that there's an error being produce. What's the error message? If it's referencing the textbox, then you may have some VBA problems. Please post the error and code.

Where is the unbound textbox located? It will produce error if it is in page footer. You need it to have in Group Footer/Header or Report Header/ Footer.

To calculate the Sum of a field set the control source to
[tt]=Sum([FieldName])[/tt]

Also have a look at the property "Running Sum"
