I would like to use check boxes as part of a document and would like to place a check only for printing purposes. However, I have noticed that unbound check boxes do not retain the value for printing purposes as when printed these show greyed boxes. Is there some way I can avoid the need to bound cherck boxes and still be able to place a check for printing purposes?

Cheers

Try setting the detaultvalue property. This should do the trick. Set it to Yes or True or -1 to show the box as checked. Cheers,

Thanks Steve. I tied this initially but when I print, it only prints the default value. Gor example, if I have a list of enclosures I am sending and I decide not to send some of them, I need to uncheck these and leave others checked (as per default value) but when the document is printed, it shows checks in all controls. So default value may not help specially if you need to uncheck some.

Sorry, I'm a little confused here. If the checked or unchecked is a function of the source data, then you will have to include an additional field in the recordsource of the report, and use a bound control on the report to retrieve the value for the checkbox.
or Perhaps I'm not understanding the problem. You may have to elaborate.

Steve

I have a memo form (child from) attached to each record in the main form which I use to issue to Project Managers advising them drwaings/plans being sent. This child form picks up address ddetails of Project Managers and the reference number from the main form, thus saving me from creating another memo in Word and the need for re keying in address/ref data. My memo form lists 32 drawings and I don't always send all. I merely need to able to place a check to signify which drawings are sent. So this check mark does not need to be saved. I hope this clarifies.

Still a little confused, but hopefully the following will work for you:

I'll assume that the report is prompted from a form by pressing a button. Ill assume that the form is called frmYourForm, and the report once opened is called rptYourReport. The form contains an unbound checkbox called chkYourCheckBox. The report also contains an unbound checkbox called chkYourCheckBox. What you want to do, I presume, is that when the checkbox on the form is checked, reflect this status on the report.

To do this, place the report check box chkYourCheckBox in the page header section. Then on the OnOpen event of the report, add the following line of code:

Reports!rptYourReport!chkYourCheckBox = Forms!frmYourForm!chkYourCheckBox

This will assign the value of the checkbox from its unbound control on the form to its unbound control on the report.

Hope this helps (I'm afraid I'm feeling a bit thick on this one :) )
