The person that typically ran or servers and maintained Arcserve has abruptly left our company, leaving us to pick up where he left off. As it turns out, he wasn't running the backups we thought he was. Trying to get this thing running, in order to get "some" backup, I receive a series of errors depending on how I choose to execute the backup. If I "run now", I get "Cannot use the RUNNOW option due to unavailable group or tape device" and if I choose to schedule it, I get "failed to open job entry." All services are running...I use SP3...and would appreciate any help on this. For all I know, it's a simple fix, but I can't seem to get it figured out...thanks

Are you sure your selecting a proper destination in the destination tab when configuring the job? Are you sure the tape drive is working as well? Aslo make sure there are no windows drivers loaded for the tape device, disable the device (in win 2k) if you have to, do not uninstall or else it will automatically re-install when you load up windows 2K. If on nt4 then simply disable the tape device driver.

If all else fails (as this guy has no doubt messed with this install) try a reinstall and then sp3, we'll work from there.

good luck
