I can't figure out how to set the uname -S name so it is preserved after a reboot. The man page for uname specifically states it is not preserved when set by "uname -S xxxx", but doesn't suggest a way to set it permanently. Where do I set this value so it is preserved? And how can I find out why it changed on it's own?

Thanks in advance

Never mind.. I found a way to do it. Updating the hostname in smitty updates the uname as well, and that survives a boot. After that, I can change the hostname to what I need.

typically this is set in /etc/rc.net using output of hostname command. so what you really did was set the hostname in ODM which then sets uname via /bin/uname -S `hostname`.

the same process is used to set hostid.
