Hi. I'm just starting to learn Premiere 6 and need all the help I can get :) The problem is that while I can watch a clip in the project and source monitors just fine, if I play it on the program monitor or time line all I get is audio but no video. Appreciate the help.

What are the source clips? DV? Something else?

If something else, it is likely that Premiere 6 cannot edit that format if it will not play on the timeline.

When you play in a clip window, you are using Windows facilities, not Premiere's, which is why some clips play as you describe but you cannot edit them.

Hi. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. The source material was a movie trailer I downloaded off the Internet. I've been trying to figure out how to re-edit trailers like they do on YouTube, but having great difficulty figuring it out. Thanks again :)

If you want to use Premiere 6 to edit such footage, you'll need to convert it to an editable format. The best choice is DV.

A free program called Virtual Dub ( can do the conversion.

When you've finished, you'll probably need to transcode again into a format for the web (if that's what you want). It's possible that one of the Premiere export options will suit. If not, output to a DV AVI file and use Virtual Dub to transcode into your target format.

This assumes that Virtual Dub can handle the formats you're using.
