unable to union 2 queries while usage property is different

When trying to union 2 queries , the data type is Date Time for both but the usage property is attribute and identifier respectively.Hence not able to perform union instead getting 'ORA incorrect name' error.
PLease help.

Dates should always be treated as identifiers! The problem may be that the aggregate settings are different for the data time objects. Oracle itself is unaware of the Cognos designation identifier/attribute.
Luckily, you can change the aggregate settings from the reporting tool (best thing about Cognos C8) and fix things..

how to change the aggregate settings in the reporting tool?

can we change the usage property at the tool itsself , if so , please let me know how?
I thought we can do it in package side only.
 
Aggregate settings can be changed with the properties of the query-item (from within the report).
Usage can only be changed in the model.

You can also take the SQL from the 2 seperate union parts and compare the structure. If differences in aggregate setting are there, you will notice - for instance - different group by expressions at the end of the SQL
