Hi,

I have a similar problem as the darrendiego thread but was unable to solve it looking at the thread.

I am running a Win2k Srv SP3, IE6 and I connect to the internet using a 56k modem.

When I connect to the internet, I can only browse using the IP address and then the relevant page name. The browser does not resolve the name to IP address.

I can also Ping and tracert IP but not name addresses. When I look at my Ipconfig /all everything is normal. I can also use Nslookup to look up IP and name addresses.

I am running Active directory but are not using a DNS server or DHCP as I am only using this platform for learning purposes.

The way that I have managed to solve the problem temporarily is by going into my Local Network Connection and selecting>TCP/IP>Advance>and then Ok, OK, OK. Once I do this I can browse normally.

This problem has me a bit confused as it should mean a DNS issue but the correct DNS are specified.

Any help or guidance would stop me from taking any more panadole.

Thank you,

hmm, try using DNS address's:

213.120.62.101
213.120.62.102

I know these to work.

But like you said, if you go into the menu's and click ok then it's probably a software issue ?

i have ran across this when i use to setup broadband access, it was always solved by wiping out winsock from the registry, removing tcp/ip and then reinstalling tcp/ip. which then rewrites winsock and everything is good.

btw, sp3 killed my networking totally. i wasn't able to hit the net or browse my network. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling my nic only to find out it wouldn't let me! i tried 3 different brands of nic with same result. ended up nuking and paving my install
