I have a FC5310, which reports itself to be a FC5200. I tried
using the following 2 commands to enable the write cache:
./navicli -h hostName -d clsp0 setcache -wc 1
./navicli -h hostName -d clsp0 setcache -wsza 188 -wszb 188 -wc 1 -p 8 -rsza 50 -rszb 50 -rca 1 -rcb 1

Neither command effects the cache settings:
./navicli -h hostName -d clsp0 getcache

What am I missing and could you point me to the

it out myself?
Thanks,
Mark

write cache can not be enabled if you have some environment problem, examples: battery not charged, a power supply or fan woth problem, etc. Take a look to the hardware firsts and check it out.

At the moment, I haven't changed the configuration from
when I purchased the FC5310 and 1 DAE. I copied how they
had it wired for communications and power.

For faults, I have one disk that is bad and has been
replaced by a hot spare. Would that stop me from enabling
write chache?
I don't have a 36GB replacement disk at the moment.

The other fault is that both enclosures have 2 power
supplies apiece, but only only one is powered for each
enclosure.
I also have 2 sps units, each one connected to one of the
power supplies in each enclosure. This didn't make sense
to me, but I didn't chance rewiring things ( still reading
the manuals).

This is what I wanted to do:
FC5310 iDAE DAE
SPS-------PSA Line V-----PSB

SPS-------PSB Line V-----PSB

Does this look correct? Will I be able to enable write
caching to bothe enclosures?

Do you think that the unpowered power supplies are stopping
me from enabling the write cache?

Thanks for any comments and how could I have figured this
out on my own? I'm reading all the manuals that I can get
my hands on, but have not seen anything about what you
mentioned, even though its makes perfect sense!

Mark

To enable write cache you need at least one sps, two sp's, two power supplies, and mem on each of the sp's.

Thanks for the quick and accurate responses.

I wired up the 2 extra power supplies and the cache was
enabled, without having to replace the one bad disk.
