Hi,

I'm running win2k advance server and i cannot access my webpage with my wan ip address within my lan but i can from an outside network.

-My domain is registered with godaddy.com
-I'm using zoneedit.com for my dns hosting
-Using IIS
-I have a Linksys BEFSX41 Cable/DSL Firewall Router
-I have a cable connection

My Linksys router is configured to use a static IP, which is my ISP wan ip and i also disable DHCP on the router.

I have port forwarding set up to port 80 and enabled on my lan ip 192.168.1.2

Everything else in the router has its default settings.

I also have an alias/cname set up in my win2k DNS manager. my alias is the servername is "mywebsite.com"

I was also told to use DNS forwarding, I did that and I added my ISP DNS servers and Zoneedits DNS servers, with "Do not use recursion" unchecked. but no luck.

As for my IIS, the only thing configured was a new website with the Description as my the ip address is "All Unassigned", the TCP port is 80, and the "Host Header" as mywebsite.com

Keep in mind that i can see my webpage within my LAN when i type or my lan ip 192.168.1.2

But when i try to access my web page within my LAN with my WAN IP, 68.36.xxx.xxx, I get the default msn search crap that the ip address cannot be found or the "cannot find server" page.

However, when i view my webpage from an outside network, for example my workplace, i'm able to see my webpage.

I would like to make changes on my website and see how the public sees it but this problem is limiting me to do this.

Why don't i just get a hosting plan? well for now i would like to practice practice practice.

Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like your router does not support loopback (few do). You'll have to use an external service, like anonymizer.com, to check from outside your network. Or, keep using the internal IP address.

really, that sucks. i would think linksys would support loopback. is there anyway around this?? anyone.

will be looking into this but will check back to see if anyone has suggestions.

By the way thanks Serbtastic. Java Rocks

Hi Gabo,

Are you using Windows 2K?

If you are, would you consider modifying your hosts file?
Location: C:\winnt\system32\etc\drivers
Map your IP address to the WAN IP address

eg:
68.36.xx.xx

Save and close it.

Click START | Run | cmd | <Enter>

Ping
I think if I'm not wrong, you need to configure some settings on your Router as well as your network card to allow multiple IPs..

libroos

can you ping successfuly that 68.26 address?
what happens if you try Tracert 68.36.xx.xx from your lan?
At what point you start receiving * as a response?
It seems the problem is on your gateway/firewall, can you access it and see it's settings? A+, MCP, CCNA

The latest version of firmware where loopback works is 1.43.4. It does not work on 1.44.

That means the router is OK.
what if you try telnet 68.36.xx.xx 80, does it give you Connection coul not be established, or it stays listening?

Try to connect the server to port 4/DMZ on the router and enable DMZ on it(the router). An test again ... A+, MCP, CCNA

We use a linksys router, and have no problems with this. We also have firmware v1.44. That's odd...
