I plugged in a Maxtor USB drive to a Ent 2003 SP2 server. It recognizes it and has the arrow icon at the botton taskbar to stop the device when done. But it does not list the drive in Windows explorer. Is there any particular setting that I have to enable in 2003 for this.
The drive itself is fine and works on other machines.
Please advice.
Thanks.

Go to CPanel > Admin Tools > Computer Management
Disk management, locate the USB stick, and change drive letter to something like Z:/, it should reappear now?

Did you look in Disk Management to see if it shows up there? The other place I would check is Removable Storage to see if you see it in there.

Its funny how we immediately dial in on this one like a pack of wolves, I was about to type the exact same response as you two but you beat me to the punch. Nice work :)

watch all of us be wrong... ;)

LOL. I didnt know that I posted such a popular subject.
Thanks a bunch everybody. It did show up in disk management, where I assigned it a drive letter. It didnt show up in removable storage though. Any ideas why does this happen on some machines and works fine on others ??

Thanks for the star!

Well if you go to My Computer and click TOOLS > Disconnect mapped drives, do you see drives already there?

If so, then there is a conflict. On your domain controller it probably maps to some shared drives (login script?) but on another machine, it doesnt connect to the mapped drive. When and if you do have a conflict (2 drives wanting the same letter), the first one that get's it shows up and the other is just hidden/inaccessible.
