unable to see local host index.html file

Hi,
i am using win2k pro and have set up IIS, i have put am index.html page in the c/Inetpub/

http://wwwroot

folder but when i type in

http://localhost/

i just get the message below. if i use fire fox i am asked for a user name and password. any ideas.

this is my first attept to host my own website so i might be missing somthing simple.

You do not currently have a default document set for your users. Any users attempting to connect to this site are currently receiving an "Under Construction page".

You need to set the default document in IIS to index.html.
