Unable to see Keycode screen or Telephony Resources screen

Good Day all,

I have an interesting one for everyone, looking for ideas or opinions...some backround, I have a BCM400 4.0, known good h/d, known good BFT, known good MSPEC's, h/d is loaded with the latest su.system.32 patch...

I'm installing a replacement MSC card. The card has a clean SID and no Keycodes as of yet.I watch the Boot through the serial port, and get an "OK" on every service as it is started...

I am able to connect to the LAN, and using EM I am able to log in successfully...Once inside the system, I go to the Keycode page to view the SID...I get the "error" screen and the page is all grayed out...Same thing on the Telephony Resources page..."error" and all grayed out...

I go over to the services page and there are a number of services that say stopped and will not start when I try to restart them.

So all that being said I am considering the MSC card defective, but here is the kicker, this has happened on multiple cards. I KNOW all the rest of the equipment as stated above, that is KNOWN GOOD, is still good, because I have another MSC card that I use for testing which boots up perfectly fine...

So at this point I am ready to field any and all thoughts as to what might be the issue...feel free to ask away or suggest, any and all responses are welcome...Have a great weekend, hope to hear from someone next week. Thanks!

Are you able to get to the system update section & try to force the latest system patch? I know the system patch is supposed to force an upload to the MSC card but maybe it is not doing that automatically on power up.

Try factory reset first

or
Do a cold start
Force MSC upload.

Just another thought.
The version of EM you are using may not show the correct screens.

This was an issue with bcm50 releases and they need the latest EM to be installed to see all screens correctly.

So try loading the EM from the BCM you are working on.

Worth a try

Ok...1st in response to the force on the update, the patch loaded on the h/d is the latest and greatest...unfortunately I cannot get access to the patches section as the Core Telephony is not running and I cannot restart it...

The normal place to force the Upload is in the reset area, which leads me to the 2nd response...can't do a cold reset because Core Telephony services are not running and I am unable to restart them...total catch 22

3rd...The EM I am running is the latest and greatest...62.0.4 from Avaya

I appreciate the responses...keep them coming!

I have had issues with the EM on 4.0.
I know the latest one is suppose to work on all version...???? doesn't always work on 4.0

Install the EM from the BCM 4.0 you are working on.
I have had to do this before in order to access this bcm version.

Try this and see what happens.

I have tried as you suggest snowman50, with no change in the issue...

Here's a kicker to add to the mix, when I watch the unit boot through the serial port I can see ALL services being started and receiving the [ok] response to show they are enabling and functioning. In the past I knew if a board was bad due to the failure of the AutoCore Upload...this shows it as "OK"

The BCM comes up and I can access it through the LAN. Once in, (using EM), I go the the Administration>General>Service Manager screen...I can see a number of services STOPPED, even though on the Boot they show as "OK"

These services will not restart at all, and the EM will disconnect (usually because I have walked away while waiting for the service to restart)

This is why I am in such a confused state of mind...One thing says it's good and then once logged in it says it's bad...I can try another MSC and it will boot showing everything is "OK" and I will have full access to everything, and all services will be running...using the same BFT, and H/D with patch

so like I said originally I would call it a bad MSC, I just can't understand having multiple MSC with the same upload issue and the same services issue...Then again this is Nortel and that wouldn't be out of the range of errors that can happen for their product LOL

Yes, the Java is current, and the only alarms suprisingly are Information concerning some services restarting properly...Nothing about failed services or the stopping of anything.

But again I have endless services which are now stopped even though the initial boot through the serial port showed them as "OK"

Swapped out the MSC card, and the next one I put in booted perfectly normally, changed it back to the one of the 6 I have, giving me issues, and the same thing...no resources, keycodes, access to voicemail, etc...

I guess I just have to chaulk it up to an MSC hardware failure and move on unless anyone else would like to chime in.

Thanks again for everyones thoughts...

this same thing happened to me with a bcm 50 6.0... i ended up replacing the hdd

The fact that you have some services stopped (even though they initially started successfully) shows that some service failed and other services that depend on it were stopped, too. Could you provide a list of services that are not running?

If you want to cold reset core telephony, you can do that from a digital phone connected to the system. I am rusty with regard to BCM 4.0 and earlier, but I remember that you could use F**STARTUP within the first 5 or 15 minutes after starting the system to initiate a reset.

A final follow up and thanks to everyone who chimed in...the ideas and thoughts are greatly appreciated...

After really stripping things apart and putting everything back together piece by piece I finally figured out what the main factor in the services failure was...It turned out to be bad MSPEC III cards...

In the testing process I was using 3 batches of 4 cards...I would use one set of 4 and boot the card and then using another set I would preload the next card I wanted to test... at some point in the process the cards became intermixed.

After quite literally starting with one MSPEC III and working my way up using a known good MSC card I got the same failure of services that I got on the cards I thought were bad...

After removing the last MSPEC III card I had installed, the services all started as normal and the card was fully functional...It turned out I had 3 different MSPEC cards that were causing the issue accross a few boards...

After clearing these bad PEC cards out I retested the cards I thought were bad and 4 out of the 6 turned out to be good (the other 2 failed the AutoCoreUpload even with good MSPEC installed)

So essantially it was an issue of the DSP resources which allow the services to run being corrupt that caused it all...Don't know if this will help anyone in the future but I thought I should at least let everyone know what I found...

Once again thanks to everyone who put some thought into it with me...
