Hi,
My server is novel 5.1 with arcserve 7.
The problem is that when i want to restore or wat to look into the database i receive the message "There are no items to show in this view".
So I only can restore files by session which takes very long times.
I also treid to merge a tape again that didn't help also.
Who can help me.

Thanks

Hello!
I think there is a problem with the file: bti.cfg in sys:\system-folder. On a lot of arcserve-servers have i discovered that this file is missing a lot of info. If your is only 2 rows or so you have to find the right one. I can send it t you if thats the cause.

Hi Ohlson,

I checked the bti.cfg and it had only 2 lines.

Can pleas send me the right file.

Thanks,

This is what you need to do to see items in the Database & restore view.

1.Unload Arcserve NLM’s by using ASTOP.

2.Rename the Arcserve “Database” Directory to something like “DatabaseOld”

3.Copy new database files from the “EmptyDB” directory to a newly created “Database” directory. DO NOT START ARCSERVE

4.Remove the Read-Only attribute of the SYS:System\Bti.cfg.

5.Amend the Bti.cfg file as follows (do not modify or delete any other entry):

[MicroKernel]
MaxFiles=100
MaxCursors=120
CacheSize=20480
MaxClients=120
BackgroundThreads=15

[Btrieve Communications Manager]
MaxWorkerThreads=15
MaxClients=120

6.Save the Bti.cfg file and add back the read-only attribute.

7.Restart the server immediately, do not restart later in the evening using cron as this will cause corruption in Btrieve Logging and its transactional system, which can cause problems in the Netware OS.

8.Using the Arcserve Server Admin utility set up Prune, Purge and Merge so they are not running during the backup. i.e. if your backup starts at 8pm and finishes at 2am, set merge start time to 2:30am and end time 7:30pm

Also, make sure your Volume is not very low on space, if you are down to the bare bones (i.e. a few hundred megs) it wont work, but then again, if you are then Arcserve is the least of your worries!

hint: the Bti "Cache Size" is the key here, the above figure is 20megs of RAM, you can sssign more but never assign more than 20% of total server memory. To calculate the amount of RAM you wish to assign Btreive then multiply the figure by 1024, i.e. 20Meg x1024=20480
note: You are assigning this memory to Btrieve NWMKDE.NLM
