Unable to save changes

I have a Access 2000 application that will not allow me to make changes.
First I get "You Canceled the previous operation" a few times and then "The Save Operation Failed".
I need some tips on troubleshooting this problem.

Do you have a read-only copy of the application?

The file property is not read-only. Could this be caused by some error related to a linked table? I am also getting an error, "... unable to load database properties", when I select from the File menu.
