Unable to run dos commands

Hi all, I'm having a problem with win2k. Whenever I go tot he dos screen (Start>run>cmd enter) I am unable to run any dos commands. Whenever I put any command in I keep getting '******' (whatever command I put in) is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Can anyone help me reslove this?

Sounds like your path variable might be messed up...?

Try typing path at the command line and see if you get anything. If it gives you the same error, you can access the path variable under System Properties, Advanced tab.
