Hi all,

Recently we have renamed the clients name from long name to short name . After that we were not able to retrieve the browseable data even though we can see the data under the index.

To provide more clear picture ,
1. Earlier the client names were defined with full domain name ( ex. abc.sg.world)
2. We renamed the client name to abc with the same clientid
3. Backup is successful no issues

The changes was done Dec 28th and now we were not able to retrieve the data using the full name or short name of the server under nwrecover . Please let us know what need to be done to recover last year data.

Legato version is 7.3.2

Thanks in advance for any help rendered.

This should normally work, at least if the long name is still an alias of the client definition. What does mminfo tells you with the regard to client names of the save sets? If you have the ssid you want to recover from the index view, you can check the client name with:

mminfo -q "ssid=????" -r "client,name,savetime"

Or some other mminfo-query if you like some other information reported or used as a query.

Use that client name from the GUI or with the recover command from the client you want to recover to and specify the client name with the -c option. Does that work?

What about a directed recover if you try to browse this particular clients data from another host?

If you create a client using the FQDN, the short name is automatically added to the client's Alias list. Most likely this is not the case any more. So you need to add the FQDN manually and i expect it to work.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.

We have tried using the client name under GUI as well ..It doesnt work . We can see the browseable data using Media Save set whereas we cannot see the data under nwrecover GUI . When we tried to create a new client and it says the full name of the server is already defined under alias of the client which is created as short name and we can see the tape number of that particular data .

What if you do the following:
- delete the client from your configuration
- stop the services
- rename the client's index directory
- restart the services
- recreate the client with the FQDN and the old client id
- run "nsck -L7 client_name -t date" and provide the media.
This should recover all your old indexes.

Unfortunately, for getting all of your index in fo up to the current date, you must later scan the new backups with "scanner -i -S ssid".
