helpdesk began receiving calls from remote users complaining about abnormal slow downs. explorer.exe was running at 99%, rebooted server, one of the hard drive fails, we reboot, access the HP Net Raid utility, attempt to rebuild drive fails = somthing referring to <spin up> failing when trying to select the drive to rebuild,

not too sure what to do from here

Well you could replace the bad hard drive then attempt the rebuild. Since the bad drive fails spin up,that means it's not spinning.the platters. if they don't spin then the drive is dead. replace, rebuild.only option.

I shall use google before asking stupid questions!

If you have a failed drive why would you try to rebuild on it?? That only opens yourself up to other problems like bad stripes and corrupted data.
If the drive is marked defunct replace it.

Either that or update your resume because that is a good way to create a job opening where you work.
