Hi all,
My IE7 install has recently stopped printing when I ask it to. Can't say when it happened as it's not a thing I do that often but print it will not. All other apps (word, excel etc.) print fine, but when I try to print from Explorer it brings up the print dialog ok and an icon appears in the systray, but nothing prints.

I've not installed a new printer or anything, but to try to resolve it, I've deleted the printer and re-installed with no joy. I'm of the opinion therefore that it's a setting or seomthing in IE7 that has got corrupted somehow, but I'm unable to find it.

Anybody got any ideas?

Marc

Several add-ons can cause this behavior including (but not limited to) some antivirus software. The only reliable way to fix it is to go to Internet Options, Advanced tab, Reset.

Did the reset, but no difference. It goes through the print dialog and I choose the printer and click 'print' whereupon a printer icon flashes briefly in the bottom of the IE7 window and the proper printer icon appears in my systray. When I hover over it it says '0 documents pending for Marc Lodge' and nothing ever prints.

Very odd!

Does pint preview offer any clues, error messages, or other potentially useful info?

Yes, AVG happens to be one of the Antivirus softwares that I was referring to above. I also say the references to disabling protected mode, but didn't mention that because it's not really a solution.

Turned protected mode off, and it works fine. Couldn't see an easy way to turn off AVG 8 without uninstalling it, so haven't tried that yet. Strange thing is that my wife's machine which runs XP/IE7/AVG8 rather than my Vista/IE7/AVG8 prints just fine.

I suspect therefore that it is something to do with the new version of AVG 8 combined with Vista.

I think I will head over to the AVG site to see if there is any word of this and will report back if anything comes of it. For the time being I will either print to pdf and then print that, or turn protected mode on and off when I need to print. Bit of a pain though!

Seems like this is a known issue as it it mentioned in the AVG 8 free forum a couple of times. There is no known cure at the moment and the workaround is to either turn on and off the protected mode, or when you need to print right click on the IE7 icon and run as administrator.

Hopefully AVG will fix this soon, but as it's been around for a good couple of months, I'm not holding my breath.

AVG just released a program update that fixed the link scanner incompatibility with FireFox 3.0. Perhaps the program update will fix your issue too.

To access it open AVG and click on "update now". When the updates come up select the "program update" and let it update. You WILL need to reboot your computer after the update.

Make sure that you are updating the program while logged on as administrator or another account with administrative permissions. I use a limited user account for my regular account and without thinking I updated under that. It crapped my Outlook 2K3 so I had to do a system restore and reinstall the AVG program update as an administrator. I hadn't even thought about it because the definition updates (including forced manual ones) download and install just fine under my limited user account.

Cheers.

The update mentioned by cmeagan656 seems to have solved my printing problem. Hurray!
