how can I place a win98 pc into a domain across a router. Do I need to configure a lmhost file for this.

All you should need to do is set up the IP addy, And perhaps the WINS,DNS and Route (in TCP/IP). Go to properties of network neighborhood. Under Identification make sure the Workgroup name is the smae as the workgroup on the domain. Under Configuration, go to properties of Clent for Microsoft Networks and under logon to NT domain, check the box and Input the domain name. Save all this and reboot. Now you should be able to logon to the damain and see all the available resources. But most of all under TCP/IP you need to make sure that the Gateway is set up with the IP address of the router.

Hope this helps.

Windows 98 uses WINS to locate a domain controller to authenticate a user logon. The PC has to know where the domain controller is, especially due to the router - otherwise it would broadcast if WINS fails.

Make sure your PC knows the address of a WINS server. You can also use the LMHOSTS file, entering the address and name of the domain controller, and the #DOM and #PRE switches:

10.10.10.10 domaincontroller #DOM:DomainName #PRE

Hope this helps X-) Bill
