Hope this is the right place to post this.

At one of our site we have three terminal servers which are load balanced, a file server/print server, a DC and a email server.

I have setup a new network printer for a user. The printer prints from the print server but not from the terminal servers.

I can ping the prtiner from the all the server and my desktop but not from any of the terminal servers. I have tried changing the ip address and host name on the printer but still cannot ping or print from any of the terminal servers.

I have checked the arp table on the terminal servers and the switches and there is no entry for the printer. However the other servers have an entry for the printer in their arp tables.

Thanks for any help.

Being unable to ping the print server sounds like a routing issue of some form. You said you can ping the print server from your other servers as well as your desktop...
Are your terminal servers on another subnet or vlan?
Do the terminal servers have multiple nic(s) in them?

Sorry may not have explain very well.

The printer has a internal jetdirect card, I cannot ping the printer from the terminal servers but I can from the other servers on the site.

All the Servers are on the site are on the same subnet and vlan.
The Terminal Servers do have two nic cards but one is disabled.
The Terminal Server can ping other printer on the site it just seem to be this one printer.

I starting to think it is a problem with the load balancing on the terminal servers.

Thanks for the help

Few things that pop into mind are, check to see if the IP address you assigned to the JetDirect card was used by something else recently (you were saying about checking the arp table on the terminal server, but did you check on your switches). The IP address you assigned it, is it outside of a DHCP scope range?
Make sure you do not have anything bound to the terminal server cards that are disabled. I have seen funky things traffic-wise happen when there are services and protocols bound to nic(s) that are disabled. If you do have things bound, re-enable the nic(s), uncheck all services and protocols, apply, and then disable the nic in question.

Hope I could help.

Hi Sorry not got back sooner.

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look at the nic(s) on the servers. I have already check the arp tables on all the servers and switches and there is no entry for the printers mac address.
I have given the printer a static ip address from a set IP range, but the problem happens even if the printer has a DHCP address.

The funny thing is I have noticed the same thing happening at another of are sites. I at the this site next week so will try look at the nic(s) on one of the server there and the printers.

Thanks again.
