Strangest thing just happened today. One pc running win2k
I can ping every IP on my networks except one (x.x.x.28 and the gateway). Everything else, Exchange, PDC, BDC and every other router, pc works fine but this ip address and the gateway. I’ve checked the lmhosts file, purged and reload the cache table, looked at the routing table, reinstalled the TCPIP protocol, setup static IP, and DHCP as well and nothing. With dhcp shows the correct configuration too. It’s only this pc that cannot get it to see that IP. I can reimage the box but I am just puzzled as to why it would not see it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

I assume that this is a valid address and that the device is up.
Ping from different workstation ???
HOSTS file ???
DNS Servers used ??? their entries

It sure is a valid hosts. It is one of my other servers.
Pings fine from any other stations. Has nothing to do with Hosts file. WINS is resolving netbios names. Perhaps I should be more specific. It's a win2k workstation on NT4 environment. I have other win2k station that I can see that address fine.

Thanks

Give it the IP for one of your other boxes, give the box that suspected IP.

Now don't just ping it, traceroute it. Make sure you didn't end up with a situation where a flaked out router table has decreed that a single address needs to go to IP hell :)

Hi again,

I am still puzzeled about this issue. Found another machine with the same problem. Can ping everything on the network except one server and the gateway. I traceroute and doesn't go anywhere. I can traceroute everything else fine. Looked through all my network configs. The box gets the info ok from the DHCP. I've setup statig IP's, WINS, DNS as well and nothing. Reaply SP1 and nothing.

Thanks in advance....

I would maybe try to take all the Static IP info from the PC that has the trouble and put that info on a PC that is known to be working.
See what that does!
The results should be the same if its the IP config.
If the results are not the same, then maybe its the PC.
any chance we could see that IP config???

If that doesn't work I would just give that PC new IP address or lease and write that one off as no good.
Or if its still really bugging you, a sniffer might be able to tell you what is actually happening to those ping packets.

Can you give me the IP, subnetmask & default GW from your computer, and the IP, subnetmask & default GW of the server please ? Peter Van Eeckhoutte
