Usine a table and form created in Pdx8 in Paradox 10, I can link but not paste objects into an edit field. What could be causing this?

jlockley,

Could be a few things. Are these Word documents? Which version of Word? Are you sure you've pasting them into an edit field bound to an OLE field type? Which version of Windows? (Yes, that may be particularly relevant.)

Trying to figure things out...

They are word for Office 2K. The system is Woz 2k. I am pasting them into an edit field, but it only accepts links. I do not know if it is bound to an OLE field type.

Here the long version: I have three (actually four) computers at different locations, not networked. I generally simply bring information back and forth by use of some storage device, since two do not have access to dsl, and the files are very large.

On the main machine (office, dls) I have the Newrol (newer version of roladex) file, which I can pack up, sometimes with the entire working directory, to a portable HD, which I then connect to the other machine. This has been up and running for about a week, all sp's, etc. Clean install of everything.

On this one I use Corel Office 10 only. On the main/office machine I use 10, which was installed after Corel Office 8. Form and table were created in 8.

At the office I can insert OLE objects (in this case word files) or link them. On the home office machine I cannot. Paste is greyed out on edit, as are most other options. Since I enter most of my material at the office this is not drastic, but it is a major problem, and it will be drastic if the same problem occurs at the office.

jlockley,

I haven't been able to nail down the causes for this myself.

I *suspect* (but cannot prove) that there are version differences between one or more support libraries. I'm trying to duplicate this by setting up reproducible cases on different machines. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to do that yet.

I'm still trying though.

What is curious is that this is a clean install of Paradox 10 as opposed to the dual installation on the other two machines. It should therefor work. If the machine weren't so clean and easy right now, I'd go out on a limb and install P8, but I don't want to slow things down, which my experiments tend to do.

The laptop on which I have only 8 installed, has another odd behavior: The inserted documents are not visible, but they can be opened. Odd that this is not a problem on this machine, which has more software installed than the others so should be experiencing more conflicts.
