After a recent system crash, I've reinstalled Win 2K Professional and Office 2000 on my PC. I've also reloaded all my carefully backed up data! However, if I try to open a Word attachment to an e-mail, Word attempts to open but I get the error message "WINWOD.EXE has generated erros and will be closed by Windows. You will have to restart the program. An error log is being created". I've tried draggingthe attachment to my desktop and opening it from there, but still get the same message. I've also tried opening Word documents from within Windows Explorer and get the same message. Likewise, if I try via My Documents. The only way I can get the files to open is to open Word to a blank document and navigate from to the file from there via the "Open" tab.

My wife's PC, also running Win 2K and Word 2000 suffers from the same problem.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. many TIA.

The Office 2000 installation could be the culprit. I recall some time ago here at work the PC/LAN support guys stressed that it was very important to first uninstall existing Word versions before upgrading to Word 2000. (this was using an automated mechanism on the network). The PC/Lan Support guys singled out MS Word as the installation problem child and that we MUST uninstall first.

Not positive this is your problem but sounds very similar.

Spook :-j

Thanks Spook, but I doubt that is the problem, as it was a clean install on a brand new hard disk.
