Has anyone else had this problem? How do you solve it?

My users who have IE 5.5 (company standard due to some incompatibility issues with company software and IE 6) and Acrobat Reader 5.0.0 or 5.0.5 cannot open PDF reports from their browsers. If I save the PDF and email it to them, they are able to open it just fine, therefore my conclusion is that the problem is related to the browser.

They get the splash screen, then a message that reads "Error Reading linearized hint data".

Any suggestions??

Try reinstalling Acrobat Reader after the installation of any web browser. The 'hint data' error is a font problem but if the PDF opens fine as an email attachment, then the problem is definitely the browser plugin.

Even if you installed IE first, it is possible that IE settings got screwed up if a patch/update was installed. Several IE patches have come out recently and may have been applied during a web enabled 'Windows Update'.

Just reinstall Acrobat Reader.

The preference in Adobe Acrobat 5 that says "Allow Fast Web Views" should be unchecked. Then (my experience) you get good readings of Acrobat files in the Internet Explorer. I've thought it was a font problem, but this switch solves it. (Preferences in Acrobat Reader 5 are under Edit).
