I have a client who used his personal Windows 2000 Pro laptop on his former employers network, in their domain.

He kept all his files in an offline folder, and upon removing him from the old domain I am now unable to access these files. They are all visable, just cannot be opened or copied. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Scott,

You're not going to like my answer and I apologize.

I believe what you are looking at is a reference to the offline folders. The actual files were stored on the former employers server(s). Hopefully he left in good graces and can ask for them to be retrieved.

Are you referring to an offline folder in Outlook. If so, check the following directory for the .ost file.

c:\documents and settings\username\local settings\microsoft\outlook

He is referring to the CSC cache.

You need to use the csc command line tool to break the association with the now-gone server. (If Eguy was correct, what would be the point of offline files? It is a physical filestore.)

/MOVESHARE:\\Server1\Share \\Server2\Share - Use this switch to move files and directories from one share to another share in the cache. This option is useful if the target of offline files has moved and the local cache has to now point to a new location. For example, use the following command:
CSCCMD /MOVESHARE: \\MyServer\MyShare \\MyServer1\MyShare1
Note MyServer1 is the new server name and MyShare1 is the name of the new shared resource.
