Unable to open my desktop to change display setting

I have just install windowMe into my pc. It was working fine for some time.
But some how I cann't open desktop.

It come with error message
" An error occured while windows was working with the control panel file c:/windows/systems/desk.cpl. "

i try to replaced desk.cpl. but still no luck.

Please can u help me and advice accordingly.

make sure you note what you change if you go into the registry

So you can't get to normal mode? Try safe mode. You should be able to get there. For ME you may have to use a startup disk to get to safe mode. But see this:
