Hi folks

I am in a big trouble.I have Solaris box 9 & I am unable to install any packages on Solaris.
Error message-

pkgrm: ERROR: unable to open mount table /etc/mnttab

Output of show nothing
# df -k

Size of mnttab file is 0 byte

# ls -l /etc/mnttab
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Apr 7 2002 /etc/mnttab

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

Did somebody delete it? It is a filesystem that provides read-only access to the table of mounted filesystems. Do you know what your filesystems should be? Does /etc/fstab still exist? Have you tried to run mountall to see if your filesystems mount?

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
All my filesystems are mounted & I am able to wok w/o any problem.
Only thing is unable to install any packages.
Have tried mountall, buildmnttab.sh & many other options.

Thanks
Andy

What error message do you get now when you run pkgadd?
Can you run "pkginfo" command?

Hi marrow

Error message --

pkgrm: ERROR: unable to open mount table /etc/mnttab

I can do pkginfo.

Thanks
Andy

So your /etc/mnntab is zeroed out still? This is a read only file, it must have got corrupted. However a reboot should restore it. Perhaps at the same time you may need to run a fsck.

Hi

Reboot didn't resolve my problem.

Thanks
Anup

Try to unmount and mount a filesystem to see if it gets added. It should get updated during mount/unmount.

Persmissions:
444 root:root

Instead of rebooting your workstation to troubleshoot this problem, try using the manual commands... Command mountall will read the vfstab file and mount all partitions listed. If you are having problems with the mnttab file, it may show up with this command... Also, if you have a NFS directory that you can use, try the manual mount command:

mount server:/directory /<mount point>

Example: nfsserver:/usr/local /usr/local

Hi folks,

Thanks for your opinions. But all these didn't work.

Andy

df -k shows nothing mounted?
So have you attempted a fsck on any of your missing filesystems. We lost /u01 after a reboot last week on one system - to reintroduce /u01 we ran
"fsck -y /u01"
rebooted and u01 was there again.

Hi

Thanks but fsck didn't work ?
