unable to open foxpro table

We are trying to open a foxpro 2.6 table in filemakerpro 6 and are getting an error "The file is locked or in use".
The foxpro database is on a server. We can see the file but can't open. Is there a setting in filemaker to turn off exclusive or any other suggestions?

If the Foxpro database is being "hosted" by a service on the server - you need to stop the service so that Filemaker can open the file.

Click on Start --> Settings --> Control Panel

Locate the Services icon and double click it. Stop the Foxpro service that is hosting the file.

Note: When you stop that service others may not be able to access the Foxpro files.

The foxpro database is on a server accessed by many users so I will not be able to stop a network service. I still believe there must be a way to access these tables through Filemaker. I can access/open these table in Access, Visual Foxpro development environment, Paradox and even Excel without any problems. Any other suggestions or some settings in Filemaker that can be changed?
