Unable to open a document named in Word 2003

When double clicked to open a word document (letter.doc), it open the Word application whith no contents. It just shows the colored backround with Microsoft Word and no document name on the title bar.

have you tried repairing office. Are you opening up the Doc from different version i.e 97 to 2007

Try opening it with Notepad. This is messy, for a Word document, but does let you extract the contents.

It might also show that there are no contents - that somehow the document is empty.
