An old log from a "Completed" job looks like this:

The Specified Backup Network feature is enabled.

Utilizing the Specified Backup Network.

Performing Remote Agent backup.

**********************************************
Now the log from "Failed" job looks like this:

The Specified Backup Network feature is enabled.

Unable to obtain an appropriate network address in the Specified Backup Network.

Automatically obtaining an appropriate network router is eanbled for the Specified Backup Network.

Performing Remote Agent backup.
**********************************************

I'm not sure if this is an issue since the backups are happening, but I'd like to see it back to normal. I think my "Failed" status is due to:

Unable to attach to \\myserver\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes.
The device cannot be found.

The same error for Microsoft Information Store\First Storage Group except it says "The item was not found".

Something crazy must have happened because everything worked fine before.

Any ideas??

Has this "\\myserver\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes" changed location? Has the IP address changed? Can you PING it?

Maybe it's been moved or the IP address for the server changed and that's why it's "Unable to obtain an appropriate network address in the Specified Backup Network"

Just a guess on my part, I don't use that feature.

Every server has 2 NIC's (one regular/one backup network) and I can ping them all from the backup server. The Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes haven't moved and all of the server IP's are static.

I did notice that even though the Exchange MBX folder is selected and Veritas realizes they are Exchange Mailboxes (since the error states \Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes as opposed to \mydomain\MBX) the "Exchange" tab in Backup Job Properties is grayed out.

Unfortunately I don't know what everything looked like before so I can't compare.

Open Veritas, go to Help and select About Backup Exec. Look at the list of licenses. Is Exchange Option still there? I'm thinking that something removed that option since it's grayed out. You might just try reinstalling that option.

I thought that might be our problem so I checked that before and there was no serial# for Exchange. Apparently the serial# sheet wasn't with the others so now it's time to hunt for it.

Veritas support thinks the "Unable to obtain..." error is because the NIC isn't being recognized but there answer in support document 252002 doesn't work for me. I don't have a Job Setup tab and the only Network tab is under Options and shows nothing about NIC's.
