I am on Unix Sco 5.05 and I am getting this error when I try to move a file to another directory. I have CHMOD 777 and changed the owner to myself, but I still get this error. Any ideas?

What are the permissions of the source and target directories ?

What is the command you are using to move the file?

What kind of file is it?

Is the source and destination directories on the same filesystem? Are you able to do this as root?

Yes they are on the same file system and I am able to do it as root and su. But no individual user can move the files. Very strange.

Try running
#/tcb/bin/integrity -e | more

See if some of the O/S permissions are incorrect. Review the results carefully, as not all it reports are truly problems.

Have you checked the permissions of "/bin/mv"?

is "/bin" included in the path environmental variable of the user? Try "/bin/mv filename.txt /user/jay2" as the user and see if that works.

If the user does not have execute permissions or a path that associates with the command they won't be able to use it.
