I have a problem where I am unable to map a drive from one of our old win95 PC's to a win98 PC.

From the 95 PC I can ping the IP address of the 98 PC but cannot ping the PC name. I cannot map a drive using either the IP address or the PC name.

From a win 2000 PC I can ping the IP address of the 98 PC and can map a drive to the 98 PC using the IP address. I cannot ping the PC name or map a drive using the PC name.

In short I just want to map a drive from a 95 PC to the 98 PC and whilst I can ping the PC IP I cannot map a drive.

Any assistance would be great.

Hi

Do you have netbeui as an installed protocol on the 95 machine? I think if you add that protocol you should be able to ping by name,

Also

Can you map via command prompt with net use and ip address and share name?

Trevor

Earlier versions of windows like you are dealing with work better with NETBUI enabled on both since it occasionally sends out ID info to let the network know it is up and running.

You should be able to see the shared drive in your network of like named workgroups.
