my problem is, iam unable to logon to the newly constructed dc from the 98 clients. where as i can logon to nt server.

any suggestions??

hi,
you need to add athe computer to the new 2000 domain. Eran

Have you created a new domain in which the Win2k server resides or have you added the Win2k server to an existing NT domain ?
Don't forget you are logging onto a domain , not a domain controller. If the NT server is still the PDC in the domain then that is the one which will authenticate users.

Will.
