I built a 5.0 server with hope of installing backup exec and restoring the server from the backup tapes.
Im an NT guy with limited novell time. But the boss said you can do it. Anyway the server loaded, but when it comes up I get the novell gui screen and i loaded bu exec.
at no point do i see a login screen. during install i set up admin with a pasword.
when i try to run bu exec it asks for user and pw
I put in addmin and password and it fails. "Unable to login to the directory"

any ideas?

Thanks

Chuck

Are you familiar with setting the contet when you are promoted to login? Sometimes with novell, when you go to login at the server, you need to put the context in which the admin account resides.

example admin.engineering.adesta and then put in the password. Logging into the server requires the delimited context to be used as I show above. This is a good thing cuz it prevents just anyone from trying to login to the server who does not understand it.

and, yes you can...I being from the Novell world have learned to think outside the box, I dont care what OS it is, I will learn it and wqork with it. MS, Unix, Linux, Novell, Cisco, Foundry, Cabletron, Sonet, ATM, GIG E, you name it I will do it or learn how to..

Besides that, it is a good resume enhancer if you know a little bit about everything and not specialize in any one thing.

Why is it that when I boot I am not asked for any kin of login?

Thanks

When the BackupExec NetWare Client comes up, you are definitely asked to login. At the top of this box, it already has a context set, which is the context that the BackupExec/NetWare Server resides in. All you need is a correct Username and Password.

I would recommend that you create a different User Account and password for your backups, rather than using the Admin account. My reasoning is this... As you change the Admin password regularly for security purposes, you will also have to modify your backup jobs to reflect the password changes. This is VERY similar to Windows NT when setting Service passwords.

Good Luck!
