Never seen such a strange one before.

I have an AIX 6.1 server where I can login as myself and root user as well when connecting remotely, but cannot login using either users when connecting via the console using HMC. (Both GUI & cmd line)

What is strange is, it doesn't even ask me for a password, as soon as I enter the username root or mine, it comes back with a message
"You entered an invalid login name or password" and cannot see any error number or anything like that.

I am looking at logging a call but just thought to post it while waiting for a response from IBM, just in case any of you have seen a similar issue before.

Cheers

I think your server is still in initial inittab processing. See if you can find out where it is stuck by running [tt]who -a[/tt] and comparing with the contents of /etc/inittab. One candidate is an unresponsive NFS server, causing rc.nfs to hang for a long time...

HTH,

p5wizard,

Thanks for the reply. I have looked in to the system and I think inittab processing is already completed. who -a is not showing any processes that are stuck and I can see all the process listed in the inittab file running.

can you run this and post the output

grep cons /etc/inittab

Hi Mike,

I have tried to briefly look in to these processes but didn't have any luck.

Anyway I have given the output below.
