unable to login to NT domain from XP

When I am trying to connect a new XP machine to the existing windows NT DOMAIN it giving the following error 'domain could not be contacted'. All existing windows 95, 98 and windows XP clients are working fine.

any help is greatly appreciated

Assuming you are running XP pro. Have you checked all the normal things. Can you ping the DC to check connection? Is NetBIOS over TCP/IP checked? IP settings OK? =============
